Meet Dr Maree Kekeff – Specialist Breast Surgeon

Dr Maree Kekeff is a specialist breast surgeon with extensive training in Australia and New Zealand, dedicated to delivering personalised, patient-centred care. Originally from Newcastle, NSW, Dr Maree Kekeff completed her medical degree and General Surgery Fellowship on the Gold Coast before being selected into the BreastSurgANZ Fellowship Program, further developing her expertise in breast cancer diagnosis, management, and surgery.

Dr Maree Kekeff completed advanced training at renowned centres including Tauranga Hospital in New Zealand under Dr Peter Chin, and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney, working alongside experienced breast surgeons A/Prof Cindy Mak, A/Prof Sanjay Warrier, and Dr Susannah Graham. These experiences provided exposure to a broad range of surgical approaches, including breast conservation techniques, oncoplastic surgery, and reconstructive options.

As a female surgeon, Dr Maree Kekeff understands the personal and often emotional challenges that many patients face during their breast surgery journey. She is committed to providing a compassionate, supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and fully informed about their choices. Her approach is based on open communication, shared decision-making, and tailoring treatment to meet each patient’s individual needs.

Dr Maree Kekeff’s vision in founding Gold Coast Breast Centre was to create a calming and welcoming environment for patients, recognising that breast surgery is often undertaken during one of the most difficult periods in a person’s life. She wanted to ensure that patients did not feel like they were walking into a cold, clinical space, but rather into a supportive centre where they feel part of a team that is here to guide and support them at every stage.

In addition to her surgical practice, Dr Maree Kekeff is committed to education and mentoring. She regularly teaches and mentors training surgeons, sharing her knowledge in breast surgery techniques and patient-centred care. Dr Maree Kekeff also presents at seminars, professional development events, contributing to ongoing education and awareness on the topic of breast surgery.
